What is Oculoplastics?
Oculoplastics is a specialised area of eye care focused on the eyelids, tear ducts, eye socket, and the surrounding face. An oculoplastic surgeon is an ophthalmologist with additional training in plastic and reconstructive surgery around the eyes.
Common surgical conditions treated – generally in hospital include:
• Ptosis
• Blepharoplasty
• Ectropion or Entropion (eyelid turning in or out)
• Watery eyes (blocked tear ducts)
• Eye socket issues following trauma or disease
• Skin cancers and other malignancies in the eye area or eye socket
Common non-surgical conditions treated – generally in the consulting rooms include:
• Blepharospasm
• Hemifacial spasm
• Bells palsy
• Migraines
Oculoplastic surgery or treatment may be performed under local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic, depending on the type and extent of the procedure.
Most of our doctors can see straightforward oculoplastic conditions but for more complex conditions, Dr Katja Ullrich is our Oculoplastic surgery specialist.
